Lesson: So this past week I came down with the worst cold out of nowwhere! Thankfully, I was able to go about a year without getting a cold or the flu, so this caught me totally off guard! During last year’s cold and flu season, we were extra careful in our household because my son was a newborn. During that time, I came across something called Manuka Honey. The benefits that I read about were pretty amazing, almost too good to be true. One benefit in particular that stood out to me was defending against the cold and flu, which was exactly what I wanted to be able to do for my family. So I ended up ordering a jar to keep on hand just in case someone started to feel sick. To my amazement and surprise, each time my husband or I started to feel like something might be coming on, we took a spoonful of honey and put it in our tea and we were able to shake it off. I also mixed it in my 2-year old daughter’s apple cider when she seemed to be coming down with something and it worked pretty well for her too. I believe the key was catching it before it turned into something worse. This time around, since it’s currently the end of summer, I wasn’t prepared with my secret weapon. I know you can catch a cold in the summer but it was off my radar. So when it hit me last week, it hit me hard. I wasn’t sure if it was because I had not been sick for so long or if it was just a bad cold. Either way it wiped me out!
By the time I was able to get some of the manuka honey, the cold had already set in. 🙁 Nevertheless, I started putting some in my tea to see if I could get some relief but did not see so much initially. Then it dawned on me that last year I would swallow a spoonful of it in addition to drinking it in my tea. I don’t know why that made such a difference but it did! Maybe the potency was stronger by just swallowing it. I am not exaggerating when I say I woke up the next morning feeling 90% better! It was such a drastic difference that I had to write about it this week!*
